    Cycling holidays

There are many ways to spend your holidays cycling. You can travel small distances every day with the family on your normal bike, do 200 km a day on your racing bike with minimal luggage or make cycling (world) trips of several months. You can cycle from hotel to hotel or pitch your tent in the middle of nature each night and cook in front of your tent. Your way of going on holiday by bike will require specific demands on your bike and bike equipment. If you are travelling for a longer period of time, a tent, sleeping mat and sleeping bag are things you will have to consider.

Your first cycling holiday with a tent

Your first cycling tour with a tent requires some extra preparation. If you are going on a cycling tour of several days and spending the night in your own tent, you are often self-sufficient. In your panniers you not only carry a tent, but also a sleeping mat, sleeping bag, burner, pots and pans, clothes and food. In most cases you will need about 50 litres to carry all your equipment. How far you want to go in your choice of equipment for a first multi-day cycling trip should depend on your intentions for the coming years. If you intend to ride more often with tent and bike, it might be useful to choose some really light items for your first trip. Your mat or sleeping bag are items where you can save a lot of grams (and litres of packing volume) for a relatively small budget. Compared to saving grams on your tent, for example, this is a smart choice. When cycling with a tent, the lighter you are packed, the easier it is to travel. Go directly to the lightweight sleeping bags, compact mats or all trekking tents.
