Most family tents feature an integrated canopy some even feature a canopy that is detachable by zipper. Some tents have optional matching canopies.

With a tarp (or tentwing) you can create a canopy for every tent. A tarp is a rectangular piece of canvas made from either polyester or cotton, with a hem along the outlines featuring various holes. The most common sizes are 3 x 3, 3 x 4 and 4 x 4 meters. Most tarps come with poles, but you can also get these separately.

You can create a canopy by placing the tarp on the one side on the tent and on the other side on two or more poles. Make sure to unclamp everything with guy lines. Do make sure to use a tarp with a size and fabric that matches the tent.

An added advantage of a tarp is that you can also use it separately from the tent, with for example a barbecue in your garden.
