Product Description

The Atomic Backland FR 109 is a tour freeride ski designed to handle both the climb and the descent when you head off the beaten track. With a 109 mm waist underfoot, it helps you stay afloat in softer snow while still keeping skinning efficient on the uphill.

Weighing in at 1 850 g per ski (182 cm), the Backland FR 109 falls into Atomic’s allround ski category within the tour freeride range, delivering a solid mix of lightweight feel for the ascent and enough heft for stability when you point it downhill. Its 134/109/124 mm sidecut gives you reliable edge hold on firmer snow and enough surface area at tip and tail to ride confidently through variable conditions.

The radius of 18.5 m describes the turn size the ski naturally prefers when it’s on edge—a mid-range radius that works well for both medium and longer turns. The sidecut dimensions (tip/waist/tail) mean the wider tip and tail improve float in deep snow, while the narrower waist keeps turn initiation responsive on harder surfaces.

Atomic says about the Backland FR 109

The Atomic Backland FR 109 ski delivers the very best in Big Mountain powder performance. It's the mid-wait model in our Backland FR range of freeride powder chargers - with a 109mm waist, pronounced camber under foot plus a Carbon Backbone and Powder Rocker that's big in the tip and smaller in the tail. It also features revolutionary HRZN Tech in the tip for more surface area and even better floatation, so it's built for charging in deep snow and chop with total confidence. That said, with a Step Down Sidewall 2.0 it's also smooth and stable even on harder terrain. Mount some Tracker bindings and MultiFit Rocker Skins on this low-weight powder performer and it works great as a Freeride Touring ski, too.
