Lots of sleeping pads are self-inflating, or ‘Self Inflating’ (SI), pads. SI mats have a core of open-cell foam (“foam”). When the mat is rolled up, all the air is forced out of the foam. When you close the valve, the mat remains nicely rolled up. When you open the valve, the foam fills itself with air again. That's the self-inflating feature. Simple and very user-friendly. The advantage of SI pads is their ease of use, high insulation value and great sleeping comfort.
