Bach Apteryx 3

The Apteryx 3 from Bach is a three-person tunnel tent designed for lightweight camping and backpacking trips. It offers a dedicated sleeping area and a sheltered outer layer, making it a solid choice when you need reliable shelter without extra bulk.

Weighing in at 2.56 kg, the Apteryx 3 balances minimal bulk with enough space for three. Its outer layer is made from siliconised ripstop 6.6 nylon that helps manage moisture and wind while keeping weight down. Inside, the breathable 15D ripstop nylon sheds condensation and improves airflow. The sturdy 40D ripstop nylon groundsheet with a TPU coating also adds protection from damp ground and resists abrasion, plus includes fire-retardant treatment for added campsite safety. The tunnel shape and generous length let you line up three sleeping mats, and the 1.2 m peak height gives room to sit up comfortably.

In material specs, “D” stands for denier, a unit indicating yarn thickness: 15D fabric is very light for minimal pack weight, while 30D and 40D fabrics add durability where it’s needed. Ripstop weaving weaves stronger threads at intervals to stop small tears from spreading. Siliconising the nylon seals the fibers for improved moisture resistance, and the TPU coating on the groundsheet creates a reliable barrier against damp and brings fire-retardant properties to help prevent accidental ignition.
