The MSR Elixir 4 is a four-person lightweight dome tent built for backcountry and car-camping trips where space, durability and packability all matter. It provides a roomy shelter for small groups looking to stay close to nature without hauling bulky gear.
Weighing 3.6 kg and using a midweight 68D ripstop polyester fly with a polyurethaan coating, the Elixir 4 balances robust weather protection and abrasion resistance with a manageable load for a two- to four-person crew. Inside, a 40D ripstop nylon tent body with DWR-treated 20D micromesh panels enhances airflow, keeps insects out and cuts down on condensation. The dome pole configuration with 7000-series aluminium poles sets up quickly, and included aluminium stakes, guylines, a footprint and stuffsac ensure you have what you need to get going.
In tent fabrics, “denier” (D) refers to the thickness of each fiber—68D polyester offers a good blend of strength and weight for the outer tent, while 40D nylon keeps the inner tent light yet durable. The DWR (durable water repellent) finish helps moisture bead off the fabric instead of soaking in, and 7000-series aluminium poles are prized in backpacking gear for their high strength-to-weight ratio.
