While almost everyone knows their shoe size by heart, very few know how wide their feet are. When looking for the right hiking shoe, it's not just about the length, but also the width of your foot. We use four categories for our hiking shoes: narrow, regular (or medium), wide and extra wide.

The majority of men have a medium-width foot, but within a medium width you may lean more towards narrow or wide. Really narrow shoes and extra-wide shoes do not have the right fit. Shoes that are too wide or too narrow for your feet can cause problems such as blisters, black toenails and calluses.
